A Client Turned Therapist – CMC Therapy

A Client Turned Therapist

Hi! Welcome to my blog! My name is Claudia Caprio and I have been a client of mental health therapy for the majority of my life- turned Doctor in Marriage and Family Therapy and Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

I help people manage RELATIONSHIPS.

I do this by working through a relational and systemic lens.

SO, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Well, we are in a relationship with all things- some obvious ones being family, friends, and romantic partners, however, I take my approach a step further by exploring the relationships that we have with our thoughts and feelings. I found that if we can get to know the role we play in each relationship, then we can better manage the interactions that come and go throughout our lives.

Being on the other side of the couch has given me the opportunity to understand my clients in a way that recognizes the mere concept of reading this blog about MENTAL HEALTH may be a big step!

The jitters.

The FEAR OF JUDGEMENT.

BEING VULNERABLE WITH A STRANGER.

I get it, and truth is, I’ve actually had an awful experience with a therapist before. It sucked. I left feeling worse than before I even went in; but just like having an unpleasant experience with a dentist, you’re not just going to give up on your teeth, AMIRIGHT?

The same importance and urgency should be placed on your mental health!

I have utilized that unpleasant experience from my past to influence every interaction I now have with my clients. I approach with empathy and a position of walking side by side with them, instead of ahead.

This life is CHALLENGING. It’s OK to not be OK.

…let me repeat myself…

IT IS OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY.

My aim to create a space for each client to know that no problem is too small, nor too big, and my philosophy is to teach them how to “be kind to the mind” despite what challenges they may be facing.

I look forward to using this platform to talk about topics such as getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, how to look at relationship challenges as growing pains, boundaries-and how they say I love you AND me, and many more relatable life concepts.
